Eric Otto Sonneman (1910 in Neustadt an der Haardt - 2004 in Chicago) was a jewish photo lab technician who emigrated to the USA in the year of 1939. There, he changed his name from Erich Otto Sonnemann to Eric Otto Sonneman.

Before his emigration he lived in Mannheim, together with his parents, Berta and Kurt Sonneman. He then visited his uncle Moritz Herrmann in Freudental regularly supporting his family on their farm. When spending the summer of 1938 on the Herrmann Farm in Freudental, he took many photos of their daily work thus creating an extensive documentation of jewish farm life. At that time he already planned his emigration to the USA.

He married his wife Edith (born Arshack) in the USA in the year of 1941. Together, they had four children. He founded his own company called Merix Chemical Company and owned several patents.

His Photographs of the summer of 1938 were exhibited in Freudental in 2018 and were published in the book of Steffen Pross' and Toby Sonneman The Last Summer.
