It's a new media!

For me so important like video.

Advantages

• good for low bandwidth
• nice for small clients (if it works.)
• nice user experience
• based on http://iipimage.sourceforge.net/

How it works?

• Load the image to toolserver
• transfer it to a tiff with a tile-structure (internally use JPEG-Compression)
  • The tiles as quadtiles for different zoom levels
• Present a flash or no-flash frontend
• use a fastCGI-script to deliver the image-tiles incremental

things to do / problems

• It's a hack!
• small things: backlinks to commons/ png & tiff support
• use of mediawiki annotation /permalinks
• gadget or template or a real wikimedia extension? (A little warning if a image too huge)
• find perhaps a better server for this?
